McLaren Inc. was founded in 1961 by Gordon McLaren and was
incorporated in 1962. The company was initially located in
Mercer Island, WA and then Bellevue, WA.. Stuart, who started in the Bellevue office moved to and opened an office in Portland, OR in 1970.
In the 1990’s, the company expanded its reach by opening offices first in Spokane, WA and then Salt Lake City, UT.
Gordon completed the sale of the company to long-time employee Stuart Smith in 1987.
Majority ownership has transitioned
over our 43 years from our founder to his original partner Stuart Smith to Doug
Davina and most recently to Phil Kumler the current President always within the
existing staff of employees. The company has always enjoyed financial stability
and profitability.
Gordon McLaren began cutting back his sales duties in the early 1990’s
and retired fully in 2000. Sadly, he passed away in the summer of 2003.
Retiring in 2001, Stuart now enjoys
spending time with his family, his hobbies and traveling.
A succession plan for Phil Kumler to assume majority ownership early in 2005 has been completed.
Phil Kumler joined McLaren from a Senior Sales Engineer position in the Northwest and worked a 4 month turnover with Stuart Smith 4 years ago.
The markets served by McLaren Inc. include electric utilities, large electric use and generators as well as a variety of process industries and municipal water and wastewater utilities. We also sell to a variety of value-added solution providers that support these and other industries. We call on engineering consultants on a regular basis.
